2010 Safety on Wheels
The Optimist Club of Byron hosted its annual Safety on Wheels event on Sunday June 6th. Although the weekend weather was suboptimal, by the time the event was setup and
all volunteers on site, the weather cleared and provided a great afternoon to be playing in the lot. The air was filled with music provided by Hiren Mistry, the smell of BBQ’d hot dogs, and great sounds of fun by the participants and family members coaching them on through the skills stations. Throughout the event, prizes were drawn and the event ended with 3 grand prizes. Community partners in attendance were 2 members of the London Police Services Foot Patrol: Jorg Stockman & Chuck Denison, a squad from the Byron Fire Station, State Farm’s team led by Randy Vegso and Steve Copeland from the Missing Link. Drop in visitors were the “Summer Cruisers” from the local radio stations, Jonah Istafan from FM96 and Julianna from Fresh FM.
On behalf of the Safety on Wheels committee, I would like to recognize the volunteers and their friends and family who supported the event: Bill Rothwell, Peter McInnes, Verna McInnes, Brandon McInnes, Larysa Gamula, Michael Kish, Keith Butler, Cindy Butler, Ron Boyd, Dave Round, Jeff Bain, Larry Dilling, Eric Abernethy, Jeff Chapleau, Jim Honsberger, Terry Grawey, Michelle Foote, Mike Quayle, Winsome Han, Tom Dean, Ruth Dean, Ann Flower, Dan Brown, Scott Brown, Tanja (friend of Optimist), Ethan from the Missing Link, Tracy, Jessica and Brian from State Farm. It is always a pleasure to work with such dedicated volunteers who are there to have fun, and make sure the event runs smoothly.
In closing, I would like to thank the committee members Heather Hines, Linda and Marv Quenneville for another year of contributing to the event planning and execution.
Optimist Gail Brown, Chair of the Safety on Wheels
